Hot mango sauce -for a spicy bite

Here’s a vibrant Tropical Mango Hot Sauce / Dip that works beautifully as a dipping sauce, glaze, sandwich spread, grilled seafood accompaniment, or appetizer dip.

Tropical Mango Hot Sauce

Ingredients

  • 2 ripe mangoes, peeled and diced (about 2 cups)
  • 2-3 fresh red chilies (bird’s eye or Thai chilies), chopped
  • 1 medium red bell pepper, diced
  • 3 tbsp pineapple juice
  • 2 tbsp fresh lime juice
  • 2 tbsp white vinegar or apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tbsp honey (optional)
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp grated fresh ginger
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ¼ tsp black pepper
  • 1 tbsp olive oil

Method

  1. Heat olive oil in a saucepan.
  2. Sauté garlic and ginger for 30 seconds.
  3. Add bell pepper and chilies; cook for 2-3 minutes.
  4. Add mango, pineapple juice, vinegar, salt, pepper, and honey.
  5. Simmer for 10-12 minutes until fruit softens.
  6. Blend until smooth.
  7. Return to pan and cook for 2-3 minutes to adjust consistency.
  8. Stir in lime juice and cool.

For a Creamy Dip Version

Mix:

  • 1 cup tropical mango hot sauce
  • ½ cup Greek yogurt or hung curd
  • 1 tbsp finely chopped cilantro
  • 1 tsp lime zest

Serve chilled.

For a restaurant-quality signature dip:

  • Add 1 tbsp roasted habanero chili paste.
  • Add ½ tsp smoked paprika.
  • Finish with a pinch of roasted cumin powder.
